The world we currently live in is a place where people can connect with anyone thousands of miles away through an electronic device. Social media has changed our lives by allowing us to share special moments of our lives and also to showcase the beauty that exists on Earth. We are now more interconnected than ever.
Despite this, over usage of social media and mobile phones has not been free of consequences. Existing social media also doesn’t establish the same sense of connection we get through having an in person conversation with someone. Furthermore, constantly looking at screens has been associated with eye strain and bad posture, leading to neck and shoulder pain.
In response to these present day problems affecting society, we became passionate about creating a product that would allow people to continue consuming content and interacting with online communities, but in a way that is less damaging to their health, and more suitable towards creating authentic connections between people. After months of pinpointing the problems with existing social media, it became clear that creating an audio-centered social app would ease many of the downsides of traditional social media. Through that, the idea for Uptone was born.
Uptone is a personalized social network that requires no visual concentration to consume content, to interact with others, and to enjoy the world. We aim to transform monotonous content consumption into an interactive and engaging experience, offering people an alternative to existing visual social networks that require full concentration to consume content merely. Users will be able to consume content both with and without looking at their screen.
The goal of Uptone is to allow people to remain connected, but also to help them live more of their lives looking away from screens. We hope people are able to feel a renewed sense of connection with other people, through the use of the audio features present in the app. Uptone is the perfect app to use while commuting, exercising, cooking, doodling and many more activities.
On the app, the focus is on personal connections created through audio posts, audio comments, and audio profile greetings. Uptone’s voice assistant allows for navigating the app hands-free, while through the use of the duet feature, users will be able to collaborate with others on posts to create unique audio compilations, allowing for a new type of creativity.
At a time where people lack real personal connection online, Uptone is aiming to rewrite the ecosystem of social media.
